Govardhan and Radha Kund

Govardhan is a sacred town in Uttar Pradesh, known for Govardhan Hill, which Lord Krishna is said to have lifted to protect villagers from torrential rains. Pilgrims perform the 21-kilometer Govardhan Parikrama, circumambulating the hill, stopping at sites like Mansi Ganga and Kusum Sarovar. Devotees believe that walking around the hill with devotion brings blessings and fulfillment of wishes. The area is steeped in Krishna's legends, making it a central destination in the Brij region. The festival of Annakut, commemorating Krishna's feat with Govardhan Hill, is celebrated here with great devotion, drawing thousands of pilgrims annually.

Radha Kund, situated near Govardhan, is a revered lake considered to be the bathing spot of Radha, Lord Krishna's divine consort. Pilgrims believe the water of Radha Kund has sacred properties, making it especially holy. Close to it lies Shyam Kund, Krishna’s pond, and together they form a significant pilgrimage site. Devotees bathe in Radha Kund on specific holy days, especially on Radha Ashtami. The tranquil setting, surrounded by small temples and ashrams, creates a peaceful ambiance for worship. Radha Kund embodies Radha’s love for Krishna, making it a spiritually significant place in the Brij region.
