Gokul and Mahaban
Gokul, located near Mathura, is cherished as the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood, delighting his devotees with his playful antics. Key sites include Raman Reti, where Krishna is believed to have played in the sands, and the Nand Bhavan, which served as the residence of his foster parents, Nanda and Yashoda. The village retains a rustic charm, with locals recounting Krishna’s mischievous stories. Gokul is particularly lively during Janmashtami and Gokulashtami, as devotees gather to celebrate Krishna’s early years, making it a deeply spiritual experience for pilgrims in the Brij region.
Mahaban is a historic village believed to be one of the places where Krishna and his family stayed during his childhood. The site features important spots like the Nanda Bhavan and remnants of ancient structures associated with Krishna’s pastimes. Pilgrims visit Mahaban to feel closer to Krishna’s life story and witness local traditions that recount his divine leelas (pastimes). The quiet atmosphere and age-old legends preserved by the locals give Mahaban a unique charm, drawing devotees seeking a deeper understanding of Krishna’s life in Brij. Mahaban’s temples and heritage sites add to its spiritual allure.
